Spanish Carrack

The Karakka-sailing vessel, widespread in the 14-16th centuries throughout Europe, had excellent seaworthiness and was used as military and commercial, had from one to five masts with straight sails and was the largest type of vessel of its time.

A distinctive feature of the karakk were high superstructures on the tank and quarterdeck, an unusual shape: the sides were made rounded and curved inward, a solid hull, where the ratio of width to length was 1: 2 to 1: 3 (late period). Ships of this type are called "round", however, due to the round contours of the hulls, the karakka were more seaworthy than the ships of antiquity and the early Middle Ages.

There are no diagrams made in the Karakk era. Some data on the appearance and structure can be found in images and paintings of the then artists, on geographical maps and in the texts of documents of that time. The model known as the ship from Mataro (dated 1450) also gives an idea of A prototype of that time, the model is kept in the Prince Hendrick Museum (Rotterdam Maritime Museum).

I imagine the Spanish Karakka as a merchant ship with light weapons (falconets). Hectic times ...


Improvements: 1. nailing the case (added 300 pcs.) 2. replacement of plastic anchors with metal - Amati anchors with a complete strapping, a device, including a buoy-self-model 3. standing, running rigging-cable (Guterman thread, amati, Korel) eyes, blocks, dowels, ducks. 5.Added aft lanterns, ship lanterns, falconets (Amati) 6. prefabricated barrels (world of models), boxes, bottles. 7. sail, bags, twists, rope ladder, buckets, flags, steering loops - a self-made model.

Used: 1.painting, lac-tamiya (balloons), acrylic (brush) -tamiya, akan, shipyard on the table.
